I was taught to make my attack and decay tongue contact with the back side of my lips or, when double or triple tongueing,the ridge on my gum just above and behind the back of my upper teeth. if I try anything else I find that I can't double or triple tongue at all. It just feels to be a natural point of contact for me. It is the tongue contact that we all use to pronounce the 'd, n, and t' sounds in speech. In single tongueing, it feels like I am trying to spit out some small object from my lips, Pronouncing a 'th' sound.
My last lesson with Phil Smith taught me a TON about articulation. Here is his take:
Say "hOOOt" and stop the air with the tongue. Let the natural pressue build up for just a second, and release---"tOOO". Feel the ping of the release? If you did, then that is the idea of a good articulation.
The point is that articulations are not attacks of the tongue on the teeth, but RELEASES from the natural position of the tongue FROM the front of the mouth.
Combine this idea with lots of listening to players like Phil Smith, Maurice Andre, Hakan Hardenberger, Herseth....
Both the listening to great artists and the knowledge of where good articulations physically originate should help quite a bit.
An ADDED BONUS: With knowing there will be a little pressue before the initial "attack," you have what Phil calls "getting the GRIP of the notes," as a way to be more accurate. You can come in very securely on higher notes with this knowledge.

I believe unless a student has severe difficulties that can not be fixed by visualization it is usually more harm than good to even talk about tongue placement....Keep the air moving...let the air move the toungue instead of the tounge move the air. We dont have to know where to place our tounge to say the word da or ta or du or tu or teh or what ever you use...So just do it and practice it slow using lots of air.....email me at sanantoniohorn@gmail.com for more in depth solutions to specific problems...
