It's not a good idea but sometimes you can miss out on a really good deal if you don't.

You have to be the knowledgeable one and rely on yourself or someone you really trust.

I don't understand the question Confused

If you are buying from a store you better have a sales person who can go to bat for you if you have a problem.

If you are buying from a person and they have no clue what they are selling you can often pick up a great deal. My attitude is that if they are willing to sell it for a great price you would be stupid to not buy it. If you don't, someone else will!

I mean from an auction site like ebay.com. Manyt times I see trumpets for sale by people without much knowledge of it(they state this in their ad) yet the trumpets seem to be pretty reasonable in price.

On ebay it does not matter if the seller has knowledgge at all. What matters is the knowledge of the people bidding against you.
