Ok. As a comebacker I stopped playing trumpet after high school and picked it back up a few years ago. I stopped because other things got in the way:college, marriage etc...Anyway, what's your reason for stopping and what's your reason for coming back?

I left because of job pressures and military service in combat and as a trainer. Just no opportunity to practice or play.

I quit becuase I had to get dentures for the top. I thought it was over. Sold all my horns, and equipment after trying in vain to play with the plastic teeth. I just didnt give myself enough time for the mouth to heal. Now I am sailing again and loving it.

I quit at age 19 due to family problems at home. The odd thing was that I came back at age 30 for about a year to make money to support myself through school. That was a real challenge: to find the time to practice enough to get into shape to play with some of the finest musicians in town and keep up my GPA in school. I also had some giant shoes to fill: Ollie Mitchell (one of my heroes since age 13) had just stopped doing that gig. But, hey, the guys in the band were great people, and were very understanding. It also helped that the leader was one of my advisors in school. I gave up the trumpet again because I graduated from college and moved to another country to pursue my new profession, teaching. After that palled, I turned to composing music for commercials. That turned out to be a pretty good career. Then, two years ago, at age 48, after a horn player didn't show up for a recording date, I decided that in the future, I would play the trumpet/flugel parts to my music myself. After buying a horn from eBay, I never looked back. I take lessons whenever I can, and practice as much as my schedule allows because the trumpet is more fun than it's ever been.

I stopped when I graduated from college and entered the Navy. Most of my service was aboard small ships and there was little time or a place to practice. I tried to get involved in local community groups but my work would always take me away.

Once I retired (26years later) I picked up the trumpet again and joined a community bank. I struggled for serveral years before finally getting a teacher.

It has all been worth the effort. I just wish that I had made the effort to keep playing while in the navy.

I quit because I had a nervous breakdown brought on by my wife leaving me, the irony is that she made me choose between her or my beloved trumpet.

Women.
