Another V-1 Question

Does anyone know if UMI plans on expanding the Conn V1 line to include C trumpets, high trumpets and cornets?

Conn still has the 51B-SP C Trumpet which is in the old Constellation line. Since Fred Powell has left Conn, I doubt if they will expand the V1 line. They will just sell it until it no longer sells well, and then they will change it or get rid of it.

FYI – UMI basically no longer exists as they have been absorbed by Conn-Selmer, which was absorbed by Steinway. This has caused a problem in the minds of many trumpet players (myself included) as to the brand name integrity of the instruments they manufacture.

I still think you can find a good, or even great, Bach trumpet but you have to look really hard for it. In many stores they have many instruments in stock but the horns have been so cherry picked that there are no great horns left. It is getting harder and harder to find a good Bach since the Bach that we all knew 20-years ago no longer exists.

There is a V1 C trumpet out there. What I have heard is that it was not that good, so not many have been made. I tried one at Springfield Music and thought it was a pretty good horn. I would like to find one to try on an extended basis to get a good feel for it.

Has anyone tried one or is currently using one? They do come up once in a while on ebay, but I would feel better having more input before spending verey much money on one.

Strange because the litereature I have on the V1 says there are 11 models of the V1 all in Bb......but..... I found this on the internet ........

C.G. Conn Vintage One C Trumpet Models
The Conn Vintage One trumpets are now available in the key of C. They feature .462" Large Bore and all have a standard #50 leadpipe. Available currently as a Special Order only until demand picks up. All Vintage One C Trumpets are available with the #46 pipe which is the standard pipe for the Bb version.
