Deluxe 90Most of the currently made Getzen horns have been discussed. Now, how about some vintage getzen horns? The most garish brass instrument designs were also some of the best, such as the Deluxe 90 and it's follower the Super Deluxe 90 and the matching model 80 Cornets. They were as good as was to be had at the time of their manufacture in production made horns. I just had a guy who had heard of me offer me an old Getzen Deluxe 90 with a crushed bell. I gave him $5.00 for the old thing. I then pressed most of the wrinkles out of the bell on an old piece of railroad track, using a stainless steel serving spoon from my wifes silverware drawer, using vasoline as a lubricant while burnishing out the wrinkles. I soaked it in the bathtub, while my wife wasn't looking, ran a brush through it and, it plays like a dream. I would like to find one of the old clunky, funnel shaped Getzen mouthpieces that were concurrent with this old beast.

Whoa man you got a deal! Although it probably took some time to do all that. Good luck.

time to repairWhen you get to be my age and physical condition, you will be in God's waiting room and time doesn't mean much anymore. That job actually only took about an hour to dewrinkle the bell. If I had a proper bell mandrel at waist height and a decent burnishing tool, it would have gone faster and the finished job would probably amount to the wrinkles totally disapearing after stripping and recoating with lacquer. Having worked in the back room for a musical instrument shop helps a bit.
