DizzyI just bought a great Dizzy CD
Dizzy Gillespie - The Story 1939-1950
it has 4 cd's with nearly 100 tunes
It's already made me think loads about my playing........ for instance Dizzy seems to start a lot of licks around the Double G. I transcribed a few solos and realised how hard it is to play sensitively like he does starting a quick run that high. Properly Articulating a bop solo at that range is way hard, Its really made me think loads about WHAT i'm practicing.

I agree! IMO Dizzy defined modern jazz trumpeters. He could play with ease in a range most of us struggled with. He had an incredible sense of time and ALOT of dexterity. In later years his sound and range deteriorated but, IMO, for 30 years no one came close to him. Sam
