What is your opinion on valve weights, mouthpiece weights and any other kind of weight you can put on your horn? I like valve weights, it just seems to add a darker tone and better slotting to my Strad. It could all just be a gimmick or it could be physics, I don't know. So what do ya'll think?

I personally don't like weighted valve caps. At only one ounce it doesn't seem like they do much. Most players get all the weights to emulate a famous trumpeters dark sound but it's not the same in my opinion. The best thing for a dark sound, in my opinion, is to change mouthpieces,work on tone, or maybe get a heavy weight trumpet but all the weighted accesories don't do much to me. This is just my experience. People like Wynton Marsalis swear by Monettes, weighted valve caps, and tone intensifyers. I guess it depends on the player. Chris

I don't think that valves wieghts really change to. To me it feels like the wieght that you add to the valve the more back preasure the horn seems to have. It takes a lot of wieght to make the difference noticeable. But, one thing that really changes the back preasure is to take a dime and put it in the valve cap on the third valve. Make sure to tightly screw on the cap.
