Forum Pet PeevesI have my pet peeves with forums. One of the major ones is that posters seem unable to actually answer a question and to stay on topic. Forums are not chat rooms. They are usually set up to serve a particular community who have a particular interest.
Example 1: Someone asks for a comparison of of a Bach 229 25H with the the Yamaha CHS 9445. Then the replies start coming in with this comment. "I have never played the Yamaha but,...:
This is not an answer and does not stick to the topic.
Example 2: Same question. Answer: "I have a Shilke....." Does not stick to the questiion.
Example 3: Same question. Answer: "Are you an idiot? Who would..." Flamer.
If I were the administrator or moderator, I would delete these kinds of posts. They serve no useful purpose. Is this censorship? You bet. Is it wrong? Not in the least. There is nothing wrong in deleting superflous postings. They serve no one and take up space needlessly.
There is no real reason to allow non-registered people to post. Just look at the post made that has bunch of links to questionable sites.
Poor grammar and spelling creates problems with understanding. If you cannot spell a word, get a dictionary and look it up. You may actually learn something in the process. Just because we are trumpet players, it doesn't mean that we have to come across as uneducated or inarticulate.
We don't fuzz up our sound when we play so why should we make ourselves misunderstood by using our language poorly? I can understand foreign poster having difficulty in english. But for those of us who has english as our native tongue, it should not be a problem.
The use of e-speak is lazy writing. We are not being charged by the letter. Use actual words. Your meaning will be clearer.
If you have nothing positive to add a discussion, then don't waste peoples time by posting nonsense or insults. There is no prize for posting the most replies. The content of your post is more important than the number of posts.
Keep it civil. If you disagree, state your reasoning. Answering with derogatory remarks will not get your point across. It will jus irritate people. That is a waste of time and energy. You would be better off practicing.
Answers such as "everyone know ........, is not true. If everone knows, then there would be no discussion.

Actually our current Administrator unfortunately can no longer sacrifice the time that this forum requires (Not his fault). The spot for Administrator is currently up for grabs. If you have the time and commitment, it's yours. See the thread titled "Giving it up" right below this one.
(Btw, I completely agree with everything you just said but, again, Chris hasn't been able to attend to it because of the hurricane.)

Funny that you said that. A few days ago I made to where only registered users could post. I agree completely with you, although at the time when I choose to enable guest posting was because I wanted to add some variety and activity to the forum, but apperntly it wasn't the kind we needed!  As brassmouth stated, TC is pretty much up for grabs, because I don't have much time at all for it. I'd really like to see someone take it over. It wouldn't be much work, you just need to get links to different sites to boost traffic, advetise, etc. But the problem is that I don't have any time to spare, so I have to give up Trumpet Chat. See the 'gibving it up' thread.
