Great flugelhorn players

What are some great flugel recordings I can listen to to get the sound of it? Is it a good idea to buy a flugel if I'm just going to use it for jazz? Son-of- Sam

I play a Kanstul 1525 that was custom made for me with a few changes that I requested it is a great horn!!!

I love to listen to Arturo Sandoval on flugelhorn. He has that trombony sound that so many of us try to achieve. My favorite cut of his is the Colors of the Wind that he plays half on trumpet and half on flugel. By the way, Sandoval plays on a Kanstul 1525, not on the LeBlanc that has his name on it! His trumpet is a Schilke.

Doc is another great player that is now using the Kanstul 1525.

I only know some great flugelhorn recordings of brassband players.
The flugelhorn is a outstanding instrument for Jazz. At least one name I can think of is Chuck Mangione, but I am sure there are more.....
Whataguy!

No question for me there: Clark Terry! From way back then until now, he has the sound (and ideas) I truly love on the flugel. And why not check out studio great, Gary Grant's album, Breakout? His tone on trumpet and flugel is absolutely gorgeous.

Favorite flugalist

For some unknown reason, I never encountered the sound or sight of a flugal until about 20 years ago. At a local yard sale, my wife found a Chuck Mangione 33 1/3 L.P. which she brought home for me. I was enthralled by the smoky, dark sound.

Even at the National Music Camp, I never saw or heard a flugal. Surprising.

BTW, on the subject of a favorite, I 'think' that I like Clark Terry the best.
