Have Yamahas always been good?I know that Yamaha pro trumpets are held in high regard by many on this forum, due in part to their quality and consistency.
My questions are:
How long has Yamaha been making pro horns?
Has their quality and consistency always been high?
Did Yamaha have the "yamalloy valve curse" on any of its horns?
I ask this because I am considering the purchase of a used YTR 734 which according to the Yamaha site is equivalent to the current YTR 6335S, but is it as good as the YTR 6335S?

For the most part..yes. They collaborated with Reynold Schilke earlt on that's why they have so many similarities. Schilke even let them copy their tunable bell system.
Yamaha makes great horns. Chris

I purchased my first Yamaha in 1974 at the time Reynold Schilke was overseeing their design and manufacture.
I currently have two Yamahas as my primary instruments and have never had any problems. Like any precision instrument the Yamaha valves have very close tolerances and must be kept very clean. They do not tolerate inattention.
I find that I really love their instruments and will continue to buy and use them.
If you are planning of buying a used horn of any brand or age it is important to check it out first. If you buy it sight unseen, be prepared for the worse and exhaltant if there is nothing wrong.
