Helping a Teacher UnderstandI need help making my private teacher understand what I need done. He's good but he makes me do all these excercises when I need to wqork on my music. He says it will all help that. How do I make him see that I need to work on music?

I think you shopuld follow what your teacher says. He is more than likely doing what's best for you and what will help you best improve.

Many people think the teacher works for them because you pay them. I like to think that the student works for me as part of my studio. Do what your teacher says to do, but ask if you can work on parts of your music at the end of your lesson.
I agree with your teacher that he is trying to make you a overall better player. Give him a chance to make you better and your music will get easier and easier.

The lessons I take have elements of both fundamentals and work on the music I am preping for perfornance.
Without the fundamentals,, work on performance literature can be futile. Ask your teacher for the reason not to work on the literature. I would imagine that he/she will say that the reason you are having problems is that your fundamentals are a weak area of your playing.
