Mentoring opportunityOur director of The New Horizons Band in Grand Rapids, Mi. has asked me to help her by mentoring the brasswind students in her 'beginners' band. This is a group of wanabee players, some of which have a small amount of experience from long ago, and some of whom who have never held a musical instrument in their hands.
I am worried that my extensive training from vast years ago will temper my judgements of these students improperly. I envy Bandman his 27 years of experience working with newbee musicians. I sincerly hope that what I was trained to do can be transferred to these students comfortably for them. I am long overdue to pass on what was so wonderfully given to me. I hope that I can engeandor the love and respect that I had for my teachers in what will be my students. I need your prayers on this one.

Hey Lou -- I have 27 years of experience with beginners and have also had a heart attack/ I wonder if there is a connection!!!!
Just remember what it says in teh book of James:
"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."
That's kind of out of context, but working with beginners will test your patience and your faith. Just remember how much they appreciate your time and faith in them even though they may not tell you in words.
