What are some good, reliable brands I should look at for an Eb in the 800-1000 range?

You will not find a really good Eb in that price range. You may find a used Bach Eb in that range but my experience is that they suffer really bad intonation.
For a good Eb you will end up spending $2000+.
In this range, is the Schilke E3L, the Yamaha 9610, Kanstul Signature or Custom class. I have never seen the Schilke for less than 2200 used.
Good Eb's will save you a lot of hard work fighting for intonation.

I have not played a lot of Eb horns, but the Getzen I played once played well on the D side, but I don't recall how the Eb side played.
While I don't know how or what your uses for it will be, I think you might prefer the long bell models, such as the Schilke, Bach 189, or the Somvi. If you think that you might be interested in paying around $2200.00 for a used horn, you might want to check out Thompsonmusic.com. He has new Schilke E3L's for around $2700.00.
If that is out of your price range you check out the used horns on the same site. The people at Thompson Music are really good to work with.
