Shew 8310Z

I am thinking of getting the Yami 8310Z. Anyone out there playing one and if so what do you think. I know it's up to the player to decide in the end however I have heard that these may not be the consistent horns "out of the box" and that some have had to send the horns for "tweaking". There is also the silver or laquer question.

I had the original YTR6310ZS which I considered to be the best of all of the Shew trumpets. I did not care for the second generation, nor did I care for the 8310ZS. I found these horns did not have any great character, and they were no better as lead horns than most other decent horns on teh market, but they were not flexible enough for other uses outside of jazz or combo work.

It is my opinion that the YTR8340EM is a superior trumpet from Yamaha, but the 8340EM is a pretty big horn with about a 5 inch bell. It is pretty hard to puch all night long. The Kanstul 1600 is far superior for a lead horn, and it has enough of the characteristics of an orchestral horn that it can be used as a cross-over horn.

If I was looking at Yamaha I would wait until the new Yamaha Horn that they are building for Wayne Bergeron is in production. I bet it will have the best of everything with the name Yamaha stamped on the bell!

Thanks for your thoughts bandman. I was at one of our local shops yesterday ans they had the 6310Z as well as the 8310Z. I found the 8310Z to be much less stuffy and a phenomenal horn all around. I think at this point I'm leaaning towards the 83.
