What was the hardest part of your comeback? Range, tone, endurance. For me endurance was a big issue for my first year of comeback. Also say how you overcame the hardest part of your comeback. Thanks

Range, tone, endurance and finger/ tongue coordination are all being difficult for me. In talking with my internist, I asked why my lip muscles are so slow to build. He laughed as he said that 69 year old men don't build muscle as readily as young kids.
Was he implying that I am old, or just getting there?

My comeback, if you want to call it that, is only being hindered by my mental state. I have had on and off health problems over the past 19 months so staying on the horn is a problem, so I have been in a state of comeback for the entire period.
I say the hardest thing is mental because my mind knows what to do, but my body is fighting. I have to remind myself to slow down and expect the horn to win as many battles as I do, and as long as I win the war I am victorious overall.

The most difficult part of my comeback was realizing that I could not do it alone. I did not have range or endurance and could not seem to improve.
Two years ago, after srtuggling for 9 years I finally decided to get serious and to get a teacher. This was the best decision I ever made.
I was never interested in playing Double C, I just wanted to make it through wind ensemble rehearsal and to play whatever was put before me. Prior to having a directed practice routine, I could barely play G above the staff with any consistency. I struggled to finish the 2 1/2 hour rehearsal every tuesday nignt.
After 2 years, I now a consistent high C and can easily make it through the rehearsal. Of course I now practice 2 - 2 1/2 hours every day. But getting a professional trumpet teacher made a world of difference for me.
