ZeuS TrumpetsDoes anybody have any experience with Zeus Olimpus and/or Zeus ZTR 900 trumpets sereis? How do ZeuS trumpets compare to other brands? |

I looked at Zeus as an alternative to other horns because they do sell for a slightly lower price than other horns with which they would like to be compared. At this point I can't say that I have played a Zeus that has impressed me at all. They are not bad horns, but they are certainly not comparable with the major brands on the market today. I have been down on Bach for a few years, but would definitely prefer one of my students buys a Bach or Yamaha to Zeus. | ||||

I had a Zeus Guarnarius and found it to be a good horn for the $$.
I found a Vintage Silver Flair which I preferred as it was a more open horn. I just recently purchased a Bach 180-37R with sterling silver bell which is by far the best horn that I have played. |

I need the trumpet for my son who is 13 years old and has started his jazz lessons. We have very bad experience with AMATI intermediate trumpet and would like to step forward with a more advanced instrument. I have done a lot of readuing in different forums and have learned that the Bach Strad are not consistent. I live overseas and cannot risk buying a false instrument.

There has been a lot of talk about the Strads being inconsistent. I believe that each horn you try whether it be Bach, Conn etc will all bring different things to each individual player. What I may like in a horn someone else may dislike. I may find a horn feels stuffy and another person mike like the way it blows. They say that Yamaha horns are very consistent and yet I tried three different 8310Z's and found them all very different. I also play guitar and when I purchased my Martin HD28 I ended up pplaying six or seven different ones before I found the sound I wanted and yet Martin guitars and the HD28 are considered to be a premium guitar like the Bach Strad is to trumpets. There is definately a "Bach " sound and some people don't like it but IMO you don't get a really bad Strad. The Zeus does offer very good value for the money and I would consider it good value for the money but if your son stays with playing he will no doubt end up upgrading again. The Conn V1 is considered to be an excellent horn and yet there are reports of them being inconsistent as well. In the end you do get what you pay for. | ||||

Thank you all for your responses. Decision on which horn i should get for my dear son has not become easier. Once i get the instrument it would be almost impossible to return it to the store in case something is wrong with it ( i live in Israel). Right now My options are as follows: Bach Strad; Yamaha Xeon; Zeus Olympus; Zeus Guarnerius If the young man will grow up into a devoted trumepter he can always get himself a more advanced instrument. Am i right or am i right? Amos |

one more question please. Does the bore size of the trumpet matters for a 13 yaer old boy? is smaller diameter means easier for him to produce sound? | ||||

Amos, you are not comparing like instruments here. Your research that a Bach Strad is inconsistent is true if your son was a pro player, or an amateur at the very highest level. They are still very fine instruments, and the quality level of Bach is far superior to that of any Zeus instrument. That is not just my opinion, but the opinion of at least 95-98% of professional players through out the world. Bach is still the standard by which all other horns are judged. Yamaha Xeno is also a very high level instrument. The consistency of Yamaha is amazing, but many people feel that the Yamaha instruments do not have the characteristic sound that they are looking for in a pro line trumpet. The Yamaha instruments play as well as any instrument when it comes to response and intonation, and the issue of a Yamaha sound is being worked on every day. The Yamaha Corporation has hired many of the world’s finest musicians and craftsmen to work on instrument designs. They are the company that is setting the standards for the future in the areas of research and design. Comparing Yamaha and Bach to Zeuz is comparing to of the music industry giants to a basic newcomer. Zeus is a nice little horn for the money, but the quality level of the Zeus Instruments cannot be compared to the industry giants. You will always get 2% or so that would say Zeus is a great horn, but you will also get 2% that will tell you that Kia is better than Toyota and Honda. There are always those few people that are ready and willing to go against the big names just because they are the big names.
I suggest a medium large bore horn for all of my players unless there is a special case that calls for something different. A 13 year old should have no problem filling up an ML horn, and he will not want the smaller bore when he gets older. I don’t know what instruments are available to you. There are many names that I would look at other than Bach and Yamaha, but Zeuz is not one of them. In the 3 names you are researching, I would remove Zeus from the list unless cost is the primary factor in your purchase decision. |

He is someone whom I would like to be more like, but that is asking a normel person to be more like God; we try to be God like, but that is something that is impossible to achieve. I will take your offer and ask you more. Since Bach Strad and Xeno are a bit over budget for me can you name other models of Bach and Yamaha or other brands that might suit my needs (I have around $1,000 to spend)? Amos |

I would look for a used Bach Strad which will be pretty easy to find in your price range. Look on Ebay and take your time and you will get a great buy.
My trumpet is over 30 years old and it is a fabulous Bach Strad. You would never be able to get it away from me, but there are others similar to it that come up on Ebay all the time. A used Bach Strad in good condition is as good as a new one. I would not trade mine from one that is brand new. Take the money you save and later you can and it in for a complete overhaul and you can have a great horn at a great discount. |
