There is the stait mute, which has a sharp cutting sound. The cup mute which is less cutting. The wah-wah has a sliding tube ending in acup,which, when pulled out alters the sound. The farther out the softer it gets. Then the plunger mute which is used in jazz and and marked in music + for bell closed, o for bell openand words such as wah or wop. I've seen people use peanut can,coasters, and cut gatorade bottles or their hand. There are 2 types of bucket mutes: one has a filler which clips onto the bell, the other is a real mute that sticks into the bell. They both sounf the same; like a far away sound. Derbys or hats are to cover the bell for a soft sound. The Purdie mute gives a post horn,flugel sound. I think that's all, experiment and have fun. Chris
