Hi. I have just joined this forum today after finding it through the Trumpet Herald forum when one of the members, Chris, who helped me out with a question there had this forum in his signature there.
I'm an American living in London and play jazz.
I play a Bb Bach Strad MLV180 (The Vindabona (MLV) dual bore features a medium-large valve section and a small inner diameter on the top of the main tuning slide. The transition actually occurs in the main tuning slide crook, creating the effect of a more conical bore instrument with a dark, warm sound.)
It has a 72G bell (Gold brass is softer and redder than the standard yellow brass due to a higher copper content and it has a warmer, darker tone than the yellow brass), and the Bach heavy bottom valve caps.
For the same reason, I use a Bach 1 and also have a Bach 1E, which has the same diameter but with a shallow cup when I do lead work, but I mostly play the 1 because of the large warm sound.
I just joined the South London Jazz Orchestra and it's great to be back in a big band. If anyone knows any other big band or combo in London that needs a trumpet player, let me know as I'd like to play even more.
I used to always play lead in all the jazz bands I've been in, in the past in the US, Japan, and Taiwan, but I want to concentrate on improving my improve ability from now on and less on the lead playing. _________________ Jazz - Bach Strad MLV180-72G Bb Tpt - Bach 1

Welcome to TC! It seems like you have a lot of experience and will be a valuable asset to this forum. You say you're an American? Where are you originally from? Well, it's great to have you here and I hopr to see you around.

Thanks, Chris and High C for the welcome. I'm glad to find this forum. I'm originally from Illinois. I did my undergrad at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where they had a great jazz program. I was lucky enough to study under Ray Sasaki who was professor of trumpet there then. I think he's now at the University of Texas at Austin. The UofI has a wonderful liabrary of charts. I miss playing in the bands there, especially because of that and because of all the great musicians that were there when I was. I feel lucky to have found a band in London to play in. I haven't played in a while, so I'm working my chops back up.
I will add my welcome to you as a comebacker.
BTW, I just returned from England where my wife and I were fortunate to be able to attend the World Championship Brass Band Contest in Birmingham. What a thrill to hear the best of the best brass bands. The cornetists were so good that I was tempted to throw all of my horns in the trash after hearing them play. They were uncannily good.

Yep. I'm difinitely a comebacker. I've been out of the game for 11 years. In the past, my improv improvement suffered because I just concentrated on my lead playing, but this time around, I'm going to forget about lead playing (even though it's tempting sometimes) and mostly work on improv.
Thanks Yamahadude, son-of-sam, and OLDLOU for your welcomes. OLDLOU, that's great that you were able to go to the World Championship Brass Band Contest in Birmingham. I've never been there. Actually, I haven't been to that many places outside London here. If I have time and money, I usually head for a country on mainland Europe that I haven't been to so I can explore something new.

I certainly hope that you enjoyed the presentation as much as I did. I have heard some very fine music in my long life, but, I class what I heard there as one of the very highest points in my musical life. My wife liked it too. Those bands were in fact the best of the best!!!
Hi. Yep, It has the diameter of the 1 but it is the shallowest 1 diameter they sell. Of course, even so it is comparatively not that shallow when you look at ones like a Schilke 5A4A or something like that. I guess the main reason I got it was for lead playing, the 1 was way too dark.
