How do you hold your horn? Do you hold it straight like '|' or tilted to one side like '/'. I hold it slightly tilted to the right.

I hold mine strait and level. Sometimes, when I'm playing in the high register, I might tilt it downward a bit. Chris

I usually hold my straight and level. But, if I play really high I start to tilt the bell down. Very Happy

Tilted a slight bit toward my right hand.

Tilted to the right. The bell always points up just a bit. (more of a habit than necessity)

Correction. Upon inspection I actually hold my horn like this "/" from my point of view.

I started holding it a little off to the right, but a bad wrist forces me to hold it at about a 45 degree angle.

I hold my horn "straight up" with my right thumb under the lead pipe, between the first and second valve, and with my right pinky on top if the pinky ring. I was taught this style of holding the horn for marching band, and have just kept it the same any time I play (marching, concert, jazz, pep band)

I hold my horn at an angle to my right. This allows me to keep both my wrists straight and my arms relaxed. This position keeps the tension out of my shoulders and provides a much more relaxed feel.

By keeping the tension out of the shoulders, arms, and neck I can breath much more easily.

Straight up, but with finger tips only. Very little chance for the "Armstrong" method with this grip.

Sometimes (for fun) I play like I'm wrestling my horn, which I'm told looks quite a sight Very Happy

On a serious note I'm with Brassmouth... Straight all the way.

I think during marching season I hold my trumpet a little higher than straight. That is to force the air to the audience, to make them hear the sound. I have seen many people during concert season, hold their trumpets way low. I hate that. I hold mine straight. Hope this helps.
