I Zeeland,Mi. the harvest festival,( street fair), is called The Pumpkin Fest. Our Zeeland Community Band, in which I hold the second chair in the solo trumpet section, played an outdoor concert. Our selections were;
Colonol Bogey
Main Street Celebration
Over The Rainbow
Dixieland Jam
The Cowboys
Irish Tune In County Derry
Irish party in Third Class
Bill Bailey
76 Trombones
American Patrol
We had a very decent sized audience who sat at picnic tables out in the street. Either they had no musical taste and knowledge, or we did a good job, as the applause was not only loud, but, they stood, which prompted us to do American Patrol as an encore.
Considering my age and the vast number of years away from the trumpet for me, I felt great as I walked with my wife back to the parking lot after completing that concert. I had forgotten that feeling of accomplishment that comes with a well played concert. It sure as heck is a good one!!
I can feel your pride all the way at my house Lou -- I'm proud of you man! I sure hope that when I grow up I can have the enthusiasm for life that you have!

I have always known that as a musician, it was my obligation to provide an audience with something of beauty that they could not provide for themselves. In addition, I have always held that as a musician, I had to provide myself with a sense of satisfaction from my practice and public performances. This is what has kept me working at improvement and, hopefully, excellence. If I was not experiencing a sense of satisfaction from my own playing, I would simply quit.
