Hi,
My son is 10 and is starting the cornet. He's been using his father's old no name cornet. We want to upgrade his cornet because he's very serious about it. I have heard that ebay is a good place to find cornets for a lower price. Any suggestions for buying from ebay and/or experiences?

Thanks.

If you are the winning bidder on a selected item you will receive a statement from the seller asking for payment. Always make at least two copies of this, as it has the sellers name, and complete address, as well as a complete written description fo the item. In my case, I refuse to use my credit card on 'the net'. I send out cashiers checks. If the seller will not accept a cashiers check then I won't bid on his item. The other reason that I pay with a cashiers check is that I can follow through my bank when the check was cashed. I had one dealer claim that I had not paid her and was refusing to ship my item to me. I sent a copy of her invoice and a copy of the cashiers check clearance to Ebay. I got my product four days later. She had already relisted it. I was told by an ebaying friend that she did this ongoingly. She would get paid for an item and relist it in some cases several times. There are crooks in every business, so, protect yourself with your own paper trail.

When buying on E-bay you need to watch for the amount of past sales transactions, and at the sellers ratings. Avoid sending any kind of a check to anyone with few E-bay transactions. Even better to use a credit card through the paypal program, this way you have protection by the credit card company if the item is never sent.

Last February I bought a Bach Strad C trumpet on E-bay. After sending the $900.00 plus $27.00 for shipping in a cashiers check I waited for the trumpet to show up. And I am still waiting. After filing several reports with E-bay and others, nothing has been done to resolve this issue.

If you choose to use E-bay, please be careful. You might very well be money ahead to spend a little extra at your local music store. It certainly would be safer.

I have had good luck with ebay. However, I am very cautious. Be sure to make contact with the seller and as has been advised get copies and keep in touch. Good luck on your search. I just bought a nice King Cornet for $41 from ebay and it was shipped as stated and I received it today in good condition. Cleveland
