A question my fellow high schoolers. After High School will you still play trumpet? Are you going to take a break?

If you are enjoying the trumpet and all that goes with it it would be rank foolishness to quit. If you are having a struggle with your horn, find a teacher that can help you put the fun back in to your playing. I am NOT inferring that you find a teacher that will strictly look into your playing deficiencies. That would just mean more hard work. Prior to going back to hard work it is nessecary that you get back to enjoying the musicality of playing the trumpet/cornet. We have all chosen one of the most musical of all instruments. We SHOULD enjoy,( thrill at ) the sound of our own playing. If we don't enjoy the sounds that we make, we are wasting our time and probably not making very pleasant noises either.

It may be foolish but alot of people do it. Some comeback some don't, things like jobs, college, marriage etc get in the way.

Son, please take my word on this one. I was away for over forty years for no really valid reason. I am now back and kicking myself mentally every waking hour for ever leaving. I have lost most of the advanced technique that I once was a master of. My tone now sucks most of the time. My endurance is minimal, but, I am THRILLED to be back to the limited extent that I am able. About three weeks ago I played my first concert in over forty years. I was so thrilled by what I had just accomplished that I could barely suppress the tears. I played second chair solo trumpet in a section of seven trumpets. To me that was a real accomplishment and joy.
If you have burned out and are not enjoying your music any longer I can understand, but, if the joy and thrill is still there, For heavens sake, don't give up. You will get old soon enough and wish that you hadn't given up. I will be seventy in April and am well aware that I have lived MUCH longer than I can possibly still live in the future. While I am still alive, I intend to live life to the fullest. This includes playing my horns and enjoying the experience.

I am definitely going to keep playing...I plan to make music my life in some way, shape, or form.

I would not be the person I am today without the music. Music has helped me develop and grow into the Lara I am today in so many ways, it is too hard to describe it. I know that without music, I would be a hollow, empty person. I love it that much. There's a saying that I've heard/adopted: Music is my life, my very soul, without it I would die.

In short: Heck yes I'm sticking with it!

Lara

No way man! This question was basically just a curious question to see how many are going to take a break. I am not an probably never will stop playing trumpet.

I may stop for awhile if things get in the way but I am sure I would come back and continue to play.
