Welcome to Trumpet Chat, the little used forum.

You didn't say how long you have been learning trumpet so I will assume it is no more than a year or two.

Now is the time to develop good habits on your chosen instrument. At the top of the list is practice, and by practice I mean working on those things of which you have the most problem.

Work on all your scales. Develop good sound. Don't just blow into the horn on a few songs and consider that as practice.

Once you have worked on your technical ability, take a rest. Then go back and play the fun stuff. The tunes you want to play.

Your practice schedule should be at least 30 minutes each day. As your skill and stamina increase, add more time.

Keep up your school work. Have fun with your friends. Get exercise. The trumpet will be with you for a long time. Don't get discouraged if you find it difficult to master something. It takes time.

If you can, get a good private teacher to help. A private teacher has more incentive and time to help you.

If you are in a band, help others with their playing and ask them for help on yours.

In all this have fun.

Welcome!!!

That's cool that you've got so much passion, and you've only been playing a couple of years.

Keep it up! Never say never. There will be days where you want to quit and pick up some other instrument. There will be days where you want to quit band all together. There will be days where you want to practice until you fall asleep with the horn still stuck on your face. There will be days where everything just clicks and you wonder how on earth you could ever have even considered quitting or taking up something else.

You've got spunk.

And now, the best part of my welcoming (so I've been told) you get a pan of welcome brownies!

*hands you a pan of brownies*

Sit back, relax, and have fun! Nice ta meetcha!

Lara
