YAY! I got my weights today for my Bach. Well that's all I really gotta say, just got them. Haven't had a chance to play yet cause of the internet... well I will tell ya'll how they are. _________________ Not all who wander are lost
I bought a set of Curry CCaps and Magnum CCaps. 1 ounce and 1.75 ounces. I really like the Magnum CCaps but with the o rings on the valve threads. I also bought a Holton Symphonic Tone Intensifier and a Magnum 6 Tone and Response Booster. I don't know how much the Holton weighes but the Magnum weighs 6 ounces! I used the Magnum Caps and Magnum 6 with my Schilke 12A4a and the brightness went way down! and I could play higher register with more slotting. 11.25 more ounces on a horn makes a whole heck of alot of difference in my opinion. All around slotting was better and tone was darkened slightly (depending on caps and mounting methods). Just for kicks I want to try the stuff out with a Schilke 20D2d and i will get to in symphony. I am happy. _________________ Not all who wander are lost
Went to my lesson the other day and talked to my teacher about the weights and messed around with them for a bit. With my normal mouthpiece with 6 ounce mp weight plus magnum caps my tone was stuffy. But with just the caps it was nice, I liked it alot better than without them. There is just more core to the tone. For pep band and jazz band I play my Denis Wick 5E with the 6 ounce weight on my Holton trumpet (there is no way I am bringing my Bach to school everyday). It works great but my endurance is not that great. I think I am not putting enough air through the horn and am using too much pressure. I will have to work on that. I also have a tendency to mess around alot with playing and taking stuff up an octave. It is so darn tempting in pep band to scream away on 'Smoke on the Water' and all the traditional pieces in band. I can't help it, plus with 3 bands in a row that is alot of screaming. Anyways, the weights are an improvement on my horn.
