I have been fooling around with my lead mouthpieces in pep band and jazz band trying to find which one works the best for me. I started out with my Denis Wick 5E, then went to a Bach 10 1/2C and finally a Parduba 6. I found that the Parduba works alot better than the other 2. With the Denis Wick I could scream high Gs and up but the tone was not good at all. With the 10 1/2C I could get about the same but get not too much depth to the sound. On the Parduba I could blast out high Es at triple forte but not get any higher. Also with the Parduba my tone has depth and center. I put a tone intensifier on the mouthpiece and it has even more center and good slotting. So I think I will stick with my Parduba for lead stuff.
On a different note, don't you just hate those people who have natural talent? The second chair trumpeter didn't play his horn all summer and when he gets back I gave him a Schilke 12A4a to use he can blast out high Ds a whole heck of a lot better than me. The guy didn't play all summer and is already playing up to where he was last year in only 4 days of inschool playing.
