I can think of only 2 reasons:
1. You prefer the sound.
2. You prefer the look.
I'm not convinced that the finish on a horn makes much difference in the sound.
Do most raw brass owners let their horn tarnish to a dull, copper sort of color? Or is it possible to shine up a raw brass horn and keep it shiny, even without lacquer?
I can't imagine having a horn like a Monette or Wild Thing in a dull raw brass!
You can make raw brass relatively shiny with brass cleaner or something of the like. The down-side to having a raw brass horn is the smell and discoloration it leaves on your hands. Plus the extra work you have tp put it to keep it looking nice...
